Humanists of Topeka is a community built on reason, compassion, and honest inquiry. We don’t ask you to check your questions at the door. We ask you to bring them.
Who We Are For
You don’t have to call yourself a humanist to belong here. If you care about evidence, ethics, and living a meaningful life without supernatural claims, you’re in the right place. Skeptics, freethinkers, secular people of all backgrounds, and the genuinely curious are all welcome.
What Members Do
Members participate in our regular colloquia — public discussions on philosophy, science, ethics, and culture. They join our humanist book club, engage with our community online, and help shape the direction of the group. There’s no single way to be involved. You find your level.
How It Works
Membership is straightforward. Fill out the form below and we’ll be in touch. There’s no application to pass and no ideology to sign off on. A suggested annual contribution helps us keep the lights on, but it’s never a barrier to participation.
Membership Tiers
We keep our structure simple and our doors open. Whether you’re just curious or ready to dive in, there’s a place for you here.
Guest — First-time or occasional attendees are always welcome. No commitment required.
Nonmember Attendee — You show up regularly and that matters. No dues, no formal membership, just community.
Associate Member — Regular volunteers and in-kind contributors who share our values. Dues optional.
Member — Dues-paying, values-aligned, active participants with full voting rights.
Committee Chair — Members appointed by the board to lead organizational committees.
Officer / Director — Board members whose service constitutes their organizational contribution. Dues waived.
Dues
We use a sliding scale so cost is never a barrier to participation.
$15 annually — Standard
$30 annually — Sustaining
$50+ annually — Supporting
Board members serve without dues. Any member may request a confidential hardship waiver from the board at any time, no formal process required.
Membership in Good Standing
A member in good standing has current dues or an active waiver, has signed our Membership Values Agreement, and has not been subject to formal board action affecting their status. Members in good standing may vote at meetings, hold committee roles, and represent the organization publicly.
